Instagram is launching a new in-app business showcase, similar to that of the Google local knowledge panels.

This new showcase will include the business address, hours, contact information and a link to the business website. Above all the information will be a button to view the business Instagram profile if one is available.

This information will be available by simply searching the business and choosing the relevant option.

It seems the information is being pulled from Facebook, where many businesses already have profiles.

Why should you care

Users will be able to claim a business profile page on Instagram if their account is associated with the business page on Facebook. Claiming the Instagram business page will enable the owner to edit business information. Meaning that if any information is displayed incorrectly, it will be easy to correct.

If your business does not have an Instagram page, it’s important that you create a page, even if only for the reason of claiming your business name and the ability to correct any incorrect information. Instagram is, after all, one of the largest social media platforms, so having your business information displayed correctly is propitious.

When will it be available?

This feature is currently in testing but a full rollout date has yet to be announced. It seems that the current version of the feature is available to a select few.
