You’ve probably seen the click-to-call button on many mobile ads, but last week Google started testing ‘click-to-text’. This allows searchers to text the business instead of calling.

Who Does it effect?

Any business that runs Google ads on mobile, and especially small businesses without a call centre or 24/7 phone line.

Why should you care?

If you’re a business using Adwords this could be a useful feature if you don’t have someone who is always available to take calls. This feature may minimise the number of leads that slip through the cracks and make it easier for you to manage inquiries that come in after hours (you can set up automated text responses for tricky times). Some potential clients may also find it easier to text instead of call, meaning that there’s a chance your leads could go up as well.

What should you do?

Keep an eye out for developments. Although this feature is still in the testing phase, it’s a good idea to start preparing so that you’re ready to launch as soon as it goes live.
