More and more people are buying products online using their mobile devices, and Facebook has put a lot of effort in connecting people to brands and products.
Their new payment feature, which integrates with PayPal, allows users to send invoices for items directly through Messenger, streamlining the connection and payment process. This comes after last month’s PayPal debut of person-to-person payments via Messenger.
This feature can be used in Facebook’s Marketplace, which is currently only available in specific countries, including the US, UK and Australia. Marketplace is an easy, convenient way to buy and sell in your area – similar to Gumtree and Craigslist.
Why Should You Care?
Facebook has over 2 billion active users worldwide. As more and more users discover Marketplace, which I’m sure will soon be available in many more other countries, it’s likely that many people will use this platform to buy and sell items.
It’s clear that Facebook is getting serious about Facebook commerce and has big plans to keep users within their own ecosystem. Businesses need to start thinking about how they can utilise this widely used social network for each step of the buying funnel – From the awareness phase to the transaction.
