In the ever-evolving landscape of digital marketing news, it can be difficult to know what to keep up with and where.
Luckily we’ve got some handy tips that should help to relieve some of the overwhelm!
We’ll introduce you to a few great content sources, as well as some tools and platforms that help separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to digital marketing news.
Google Alerts
Use Google Alerts to set up email updates regarding the trends that are the most interesting to you. They will show up in Google results if you just state your topic of interest, which could be social media, content writing or anything related to digital marketing.
Simply navigate to google.com.au/alerts and input a topic you’d like to keep alerted about news on. You can filter the alerts, with options pertaining to how often you get the alerts, where they come from (in terms of website topics and geographic locations), and how many to send (whether it’s “All Results” or “Only the best results”, for example).
Subscribe to digital marketing blogs
Blogs that are dedicated to digital marketing news and insights are one of the most valuable sources of latest changes in social media.
Some blogs we love include:
- Search Engine Journal
- Search Engine Land
- The Moz Blog
- The Wordstream Blog
- Marketing Land
- Google’s own blog
…and of course our very own CleverClicks Blog.
Instead of just visiting them when you think of doing it, or rather, when have the time, why not subscribe to their mailing lists or RSS feeds and let the news come to you!
Follow the Right Profiles on Twitter and Facebook
These same blogs mentioned above, and most others in fact, will usually have corresponding social media profiles.
Follow these as well to make sure you are kept up to date with any smaller updates that might get posted on social media rather than get their own entire blog post
Join Facebook Groups About Digital Marketing
Digital Marketing groups abound on Facebook with tens of thousands of digital marketing enthusiasts and professionals. These are breeding grounds for in depth discussions on the latest news – be sure to join a few of these and you’ll have one more way of easily staying on top of the latest!
Use Social Listening for Updates
Social listening is the process of tracking conversations around specific topics, keywords, phrases, brands or industries.
Social listening is often used to help promote brands online by tapping into conversations already happening about them and the market they’re in. These same tools and methods can be used for tracking trending topics in the digital marketing world too!
Some top listening tools include:
Reddit is a social media platform bursting with in depth discussion and recent trending topics. It’s excellent content and comment sorting system makes sure that you only see the most interesting content and are only shown the most engaging discussions around it.
The interface might take some getting used to, but once you know how to navigate your way around the platform, the return is well worth the time invested!
Subscribe to specific channels, or “sub-reddits” to hone in on the particular kind of digital marketing news that applies to you, whether it’s SEO, SEM, SMM, Email marketing – the list goes on, and there are sub-reddits for each of them. Here are some links to get you started:
- /r/analytics
- /r/askmarketing
- /r/bigSEO
- /r/blogging
- /r/blogs
- /r/content_marketing
- /r/dataisbeautiful

You don’t need to sign up to view any content, but you’ll need to in order to contribute to the discussions and ask any questions you might have of the community. Simply click on the link to sign up in the top right of the screen (if you’re on a desktop computer or laptop) or download the App if you’re on mobile, available for free on the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
Feedly
With a beautiful interface, Feedly is a content aggregator that you can use to store all the latest happenings from around the world and categorize them, as per your requirements.
Feedly integrates with various other online tools from the search engines. For example, you can create a Google News Feed within Feedly. Instructions on that here.
Subscribe to YouTube Channels
Who doesn’t like some video content? YouTube is full useful DM channels that post regular updates on what you need to know in the DM world.
